Treatment information and consent notice

Version 1.0 ยท Last updated: 29 September 2026

The short version

1. About this notice

1.1 This notice gives general information about treatment at Refined Medical Aesthetics. It does not replace your consultation, the information your practitioner gives you about your own treatment, or the consent form you sign. If anything here seems different from what your practitioner has told you, follow your practitioner's advice and ask them.

1.2 The terms of your booking are in our booking and cancellation policy. Section 15 of that policy explains our responsibility to you and its limits.

2. Who treats you

2.1 Every treatment is carried out by one of our qualified practitioners, and your booking tells you who your practitioner is. Our founder, Rachel Storey, is an NMC-registered nurse. You can check a nurse's registration on the NMC register at nmc.org.uk, and we will give you your practitioner's professional registration details on request.

2.2 Some treatments use prescription-only medicines. Prescription-only treatments are only given after a face-to-face consultation, and when an appropriately qualified prescriber has prescribed them.

2.3 We hold medical indemnity insurance for the treatments we provide.

3. Consultation comes first

3.1 Your first appointment starts with a free consultation of about 30 minutes. Your practitioner will talk to you about your goals, check your medical history, examine the area you are concerned about and explain your options, including the option of having no treatment.

3.2 For each treatment you are considering, your practitioner will explain what it involves, the likely benefits, the risks and side effects, what results you can realistically expect, how long they may last, the aftercare, the cost, and any alternatives.

3.3 Your practitioner may suggest you take time to think before you go ahead, especially for injectable or prescription-only treatments. There is never any pressure to book.

3.4 Your practitioner may recommend a different treatment from the one you asked about, or no treatment at all, and they may decline to treat you if they do not believe a treatment is safe or suitable for you.

4. Your medical history

4.1 Before your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a medical history form in our clinic system. Please answer every question fully and honestly, and update it before every appointment if anything has changed.

4.2 Please always tell us about:

4.3 Your practitioner relies on this information to keep you safe, and you are responsible for giving it to us accurately. If something is missed or not accurate, your risk of complications can increase, and we may not be able to treat you. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for harm that results from information you did not give us when we asked for it.

5. Pregnancy and breastfeeding

5.1 We do not carry out any injectable treatment while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This includes dermal fillers, skin boosters, polynucleotides and every prescription-only treatment. If you are trying to become pregnant, please tell us, because your practitioner may advise waiting.

5.2 Some skin treatments and facials may still be suitable. Your practitioner will check each one with you, and may advise waiting until after your pregnancy or until you have finished breastfeeding.

5.3 Please tell us if you are, or may be, pregnant or breastfeeding, even if you have told us before.

6. Age

6.1 We only treat adults aged 18 or over, and we may ask for photo ID. The law does not allow some cosmetic treatments for anyone under 18. We may set a higher minimum age for some treatments.

7.1 Before any treatment, you will be asked to read and sign a consent form in our clinic system. The form records what you have agreed to, the risks explained to you and your aftercare.

7.2 Your consent must be your own free choice. You can ask questions at any time, and you can change your mind at any time before or during your treatment.

7.3 With your consent, your practitioner may take photographs for your clinical record, to plan your treatment and to review your progress. They are kept in your clinical record. We never use them for marketing or share them publicly unless you give separate written consent under 7.4, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

7.4 Showing your results photos (optional). After a dermal filler treatment, we may ask whether you are happy for your before-and-after photos to be shown on the dermal filler pages of the Refined app and our website, to help other people understand what the treatment can involve. This is entirely your choice, and saying no makes no difference to your care. If you agree:

8. Results

8.1 Everyone's body responds differently. Results vary from person to person and are never guaranteed.

8.2 Some treatments need a course of sessions, and many need maintenance to keep their effect. Results can take time to appear and are not permanent.

8.3 Pictures, examples, simulations and scan results you may see, including the "with consistent care" view in the Refined app, are illustrations only. They are not a prediction of your result. Results photos on our dermal filler pages show one person's result; yours may be different.

9. Risks and side effects

9.1 All treatments carry some risk. Swelling, bruising, tenderness and redness where you were treated are common, and sometimes small bumps. These usually settle within a few days. Infection is rare.

9.2 Rare but serious complications can happen with some treatments. With dermal fillers, a blocked blood vessel is rare but serious, and it needs treatment straight away (section 11.2). A severe allergic reaction is also rare. Your practitioner will explain the risks that apply to your treatment at your consultation, and they are listed on your consent form. Our practitioners are trained to recognise and manage complications, and the clinic keeps emergency medicines and equipment on site.

10. Aftercare: your part

10.1 You will be given written aftercare for your treatment. You can also find your aftercare leaflets in the Refined app. Please read and follow them.

10.2 Please avoid the activities your aftercare tells you to avoid, for example strenuous exercise, saunas, alcohol or make-up for a set time, and use sun protection.

10.3 Please come to any review appointment we arrange, and contact us if anything worries you.

10.4 Following your aftercare is your responsibility. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for harm that results from not following it.

11. When to get help straight away

11.1 Call 999 or go to A&E, and then let us know, if you have:

11.2 Please call us now on 07583 321635 (call or WhatsApp) if you notice:

11.3 If you can't reach us, call NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999. Tell them what treatment you had and when.

12. Your records

12.1 Your consultation notes, medical history, consent forms and clinical photographs are kept securely in our clinic system, Pabau, as your clinical record. Pabau is our main record. We keep your clinical record for 8 years after your last treatment, in line with professional guidance.

12.2 The Refined app does not hold your clinical record. Deleting your app account does not delete it. Our privacy notice explains how we look after your information and your rights.

13. Questions and concerns

13.1 If you have any question about a treatment, please ask your practitioner before you go ahead. If you are unhappy with anything, please see our complaints procedure.
