How to check an aesthetics practitioner’s nursing registration.

Pink chairs, a mirror and the Refined wall sign inside the clinic.

If a practitioner says they are a registered nurse, you can check that claim yourself. I’d suggest starting with the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s own guidance. You don’t need to rely on a clinic description alone.

1. Find the NMC register

Go to the NMC’s public register. The NMC says it is free to search and shows nurses and midwives who can practise in the UK, and nursing associates who can practise in England. Its guide to searching explains the results and the terms used.

2. Check you have the right person

Ask the practitioner for their NMC PIN. The NMC says a nurse, midwife or nursing associate should provide it when asked by someone using their services, and that a PIN gives the most accurate results.

You can search using a first and last name if you do not have a PIN, but names can be shared. Do not assume the first result belongs to the person you are looking for. Ask for the PIN if you need to distinguish between results.

3. Read the whole result

The register shows the name, registration status, geographical location, expiry date, register entry, start date and recorded qualifications. Check that the details match the practitioner you intended to find.

Read the status and any accompanying information carefully. The NMC explains that some statuses involve restrictions, while a caution is different from a restriction on practice. Its status glossary is the right place to check what a particular term means. If you are unsure, contact the NMC instead of interpreting a partial result yourself.

What the register can and cannot tell you

Registration checks a professional credential. It does not guarantee an outcome, endorse a particular service or replace a conversation with the practitioner. The register’s “no recorded qualifications” wording refers to additional qualifications added to registration, according to the NMC glossary.

For the wider practical details of choosing an appointment, I’d also look at the booking checklist. If you have a question before deciding whether to book, you can contact the clinic.

You can also explore facials near Whitley Bay and Seaton Delaval or browse the treatment menu.

Common questions

Can I search the NMC register without a PIN?

Yes. The NMC says you can search by first and last name, but more than one person may share a name. A PIN gives the most accurate results.

Does nursing registration guarantee a treatment result?

No. Registration is one check of a professional credential. It is not a guarantee of a result or an endorsement of a particular treatment.

What if I cannot identify the right person?

Ask the practitioner for their PIN and check the details again. If the result is still unclear, contact the NMC for help rather than guessing.
